just recently, a close friend called and told me that her marriage was ended. immediately, i began to verbally abuse the man who has broken her home and heart. but she has done something suprisingly different. she chose to wish him well and let him go. the following is a response to a recent post on her blog:
"dear friend,
i am so sorry for the recent demise of your marriage. how do you it? how are you able to wish him well and peace when he's twice broken your heart?
when i talked with you this weekend, you were calm, upset, but unusually calm. not one time did you say anything bad about him. not even substituting his name for less than desirable adjectives. i, on the other hand, was threatening bodily harm and offering up names that were far less flattering.
by all accounts, you should be screaming, cursing and yelling. especially since you gave him a second chance, redemption. i feel so angry, betrayed and hurt for you. does that even make sense? you've become a sister to me and when my family hurts, i'm ready to strike.
but as i sit here and write, i think about how you've shown true grace and strength. you've decided to take the high road and not become bitter over this new turn in your life. while the rest of us who love you scream "he's a bastard and a coward," you wish him well and pray for his peace of mind and happiness.
you even talk of about how things will be different when you find love again. you are courage and hope exemplified. you've shown how true christians should be in situations such as these. you turned the other cheek and showed love. for that i believe in my heart of hearts that you will be blessed with the kind of happiness that can only come from discovering who you are.
i apologize for not displaying that kind of love and understanding when you broke the news to me. i really do like jeremy, too. and i agree with you in prayer that he will find what it is that will make him happy. i pray this situation will draw both of you closer to Christ as He is really the only way someone can find true happiness and inner peace.
you are a true, strong and intelligent woman. there are so many ways you could have chosen to handle this. i am proud to know that you're doing the right thing and taking a step toward the peace you deserve. you are the courageous one and i am so honored to call you friend.
i am someone who does not particularly like to take chances on matters of the heart for fear of being hurt, let down or disappointed. but you've shown what it means to have true love for another - even if it means letting them go so they can be happy.
i am here for you, my dear sweet friend, as you start this new journey in your life. i am here if you want to talk, cry or just hang out. i am here if you need anything at all. and as always, i am praying for you. i have so much respect for the level of maturity you have demonstrated. thank you for reminding me of what christians are supposed to do."
let us remember that we all are given choices in how to react in situations good or bad.
be mindful. be strong. be blessed.
