breaking up is hard to do...

last night (wednesday, april 22) finally brought years of spiritual unrest and dissatisfaction to a close. last night, i finally made the decision to break away in search of a more peaceful and unrestricted enrichment for my heart, mind, spirit and soul. i am feeling the pangs of disappointment in regards to others' reaction to my choice to walk away. however, i also feel a wave of new beginnings, hope and optimism washing and over me. i'm sure for a while, some days will be better than others. i pray that the relationships gained and fostered will continue to do so—though i know things are now changed. but at the risk of doing what's right for me spiritually and for my marriage, the change is necessary and inevitable. deep inside i'll always wonder if they truly understand how much i love and care for them. for now, this letter will have to suffice. God, help me heal as i move onward.

dear
church leader,

i pray all is well and God's choicest blessings are upon you. i write to share what a blessing you, the ministry and the people of the church have been in my life. during my time at the church, i have grown and matured in ways i thought not possible. you personally have poured into my life and spirit. no words can describe how grateful i am. i have been changed for the better knowing you and digesting your teachings.

over the past few years, God has shown himself mightily in all areas of my life. i am awed, humbled and grateful for all the blessings and opportunities He has afforded me. during that time, i have learned to seek His face and discover God's will for my life–particularly this past year. i have been seeking God's direction. after much prayer and meditation, i have decided it is time to leave the church and pursue other worship opportunities.

my decision is based on my own careful consideration and spiritual assessment, coupled with my desire to worship with my husband in the same church setting. it has always been my aspiration to do so. we have prayed and decided to attend another church.

though i am excited by this new chapter in my life. i am saddened by my departure as well. i have been a part of this ministry for almost thirteen years. the choir in particular has become my family away from home. the saying is very true–"there is no church like this church no where near this church."

i want to take this opportunity to thank you for your leadership, love and friendship. i pray you will continue to consider me a friend. i will always be grateful to God for placing you and the people of the church in my life. i love, admire and respect you and pray for you often.

i ask your prayers as we journey on to this new season in our lives. you and the church will always be my "family."

in Christ's love,
drenie
