verily, i say...

normally, i don't post this early in the morning or from work. however, i'm having i-net issues at my temporary abode so here's my two cents for friday...

i've been pondering over the past weeks conversations with various people and things i've observed. what i've noticed is how we chose which truths to share with certain people. not telling a lie or a slight untruth - which is still a lie. but picking and choosing what verity to share and with whom we share it. it's like we know or assume that certain people will not be able to handle our truths. so, we carefully think about what we share and don't share. why do we do that? what keeps us from being totally honest and open?

are we afraid that people won't look at us the same? afraid that we'll lose credibility or a certain level of respect with them? or even worse, they'll share this trusted actuality with others? now, i'm not talking about strangers or acquaintances. i'm talking about people we've built relationships with–our "down like four flat tires" folks. i readily admit that as close as i am to certain people, there are still some things, some truths i dare not share. which brings me to these questions. what would really happen we were totally honest with each other? what effect would that have on our personal and professional relationships, or the world for that matter, if we cut the bull and got straight to the point?

from simple truths like saying "yes, those pants make you look fat," to the tough ones like "no, i really don't love you anymore." how many relationships would be changed if partners were really candid with one another. what if that fear of whatever weren't there and we all could just share what we are really feeling or thinking with one another?

i've noticed that i'm getting to a point now where i don't want people to only tell me what i want to hear. how can i grow and learn from that? i want the truth, whether it's hard to swallow or easy to take. not an opinion, but the real truth. i may cry or laugh at what i hear. i may take it in and meditate on what was given to me. in the end, i'll be glad i was told, and i'll have a greater respect for the one who told me. on occasion i will ask people things. and say now tell me the REAL deal. and i can still tell when they're not being totally honest.

but i'm trying to get to a point where i'm as honest with people as i want them to be with me. and i also am working on the tactful way to say it. people deserve (i deserve) to hear the truth, but still in a respectful manner. let's not be all brash and uncouth about it. that's where we'll lose the respect.

i'm so glad that there's ONE i can tell anything to and not lose favor with. He will still love me for who i am and no matter what will still want to hear from me. He already knows the truth anyway and is just waiting for me share it.

so, what are your truths? what would you say or share if that fear factor weren't there? what realisms would you tell yourself? as for me, the only way you'd know is if you ask.

be honest with yourself and others. be truthful with God. be blessed.
